With a family history rooted in the textiles industry, it was inevitable that Alice Stone would create her own signature label. A London College of Fashion alumna, Alice launched Lily and Lionel - named after her maternal grandparents - in 2008, initially as a luxury scarf brand known for its hand-drawn vintage-inspired prints. By 2015, Lily and Lionel had grown into a ready-to-wear British print house, delivering timeless collections worldwide from its London studio grounded in the principle of creating treasured pieces to pass down to generations.
To ensure that the business grows in a sustainable way, the team at Lily and Lionel are continually questioning every decision they make each time a collection is created and are always exploring and trialling materials that reduce negative environmental and social impacts. Their collections are made in a number of family-run factories in India, Italy and the UK where the fabrics are dyed in a closed system and have actually reduced the number of styles in their collections with the view that each piece should be a considered purchase.
